Cardo BK-1 and Elite Cyclecross!

You may remember the review that I did of the BK-1 a few months ago.  They’re a bluetooth-based multi-rider communication system that’s pretty sweet.  If you haven’t read my review you should check it out over here.

Anyhow. Cardo is stepping into the “Big Leagues” with a recent announcement.  Check this out:

Cardo Systems Heads to Title Sponsor Role in Elite Women’s Race
Wireless Hands-Free Cardo BK-1 Communication and Entertainment System Keeps Cyclists in Touch across Long Distances

PITTSBURGH, (November 30, 2012) – Cardo Systems, Inc., creator of the first-in-kind wireless Bluetooth communications and entertainment system designed specifically for cyclists, announced today that it is a title sponsor of the elite women’s cyclocross race at CXLA Weekend, an annual cycling competition that features punishing terrains and obstacles. The event takes place in Los Angeles State Historic Park December 1 and 2.

Cardo Systems joins with event organizer SoCalCross Prestige Series in supporting women’s cycling and will contribute to the elite women’s purse awarded to the top finishers. The Cardo BK-1 was introduced this year at Sea Otter and is available in bicycle shops across the country. Tested under the harshest racing conditions, the Cardo BK-1’s advanced communications capabilities enable cyclists to hold two-way and three-way conversations with fellow BK-1 users up to 1,600 feet away. Using the hands-free device, cyclists can listen to music or hear tips on navigating courses from Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones, MP3 players and GPS devices. Easy to install and operate, the BK-1 is designed for road cyclists, triathletes, mountain bikers, coaches, commuters and casual riders. With the BK-1, cyclists can keep their eyes on the road while making the ride more enjoyable by being in touch with their fellow riders. When they wish, cyclists can also choose to pick up phone calls from their Bluetooth phone using their voice.

Cardo will demonstrate its BK-1 bicycle helmet communication system at the event.

“We aim to promote cyclocross and cycling to women and juniors, along with riders of all levels, through the CXLA event. Our mission fits the concept of the BK-1 very well,” said Dorothy Wong, a promoter with the SoCalCross Series.
